Historically, the term “genius” has belonged to men – what might female artists have to do to earn the title? What does our inheritance say about our identity? How can getting back in touch with our bodies be an act of both rebellion and care? These are some of the questions Kasia Van Schaik (Women Among Monuments: Solitude, Permission, and the Pursuit of Female Genius), Kagiso Lesego Molope (We Inherit the Fire), and Quill Christie-Peters (On Wholeness: Anishinaabe Pathways to Embodiment and Collective Liberation) ask in their latest works.
In conversation with one another, moderated by Susan Scott, these authors will explore legacy, tradition, and invention, as well as the importance for women of both independence and community.
