SOLD OUT: What Is & What If: How to Write an Award-Winning Essay

This workshop will teach you how to wrangle events from real life into a memorable story. We will examine how to draw from lived experience while making full use of the metaphorical power of language to transform our truths into mesmerizing narratives. We will explore how to render memories into sensory-rich scenes as well as excavate abstract wisdom from them. From there we will consider how to wield the speculative to enliven our essays—how might mythic, ghostly, or otherwise more obviously imaginative modes collude with nonfiction to help us portray emotional truths in deeper, striking ways?
